ZDV-The Family

Since its foundation in 1842 the Zentral-Dombau-Verein (“Central-Cathedral-Building-Society”, referred to as “ZDV“) has become one great family. Currently roughly 13.000 individuals, companies and corporations, business operations and institutions, societies and associations as well as other groups belong to the probably oldest citizens' action committee in the world.

These include for instance convinced citizens of Cologne as well as numerous individuals and institutions from sur-rounding areas – furthermore  relatives of families, that are and have been members of the ZDV for generations since its existence or friends of Cologne Cathedral on all continents of the earth. In doing so, every single member contri-butes one's share, so that Cologne Cathedral stays with us!

Individual dedication for Cologne Cathedral in the ZDV-family links the members to one another and thus creates an exceptional sense of cohesiveness in a strong community. Year after year members may look up to which constructional and preservation measures their contributions were applied to in the special annual edition of the ZDV, called "Kölner Domblatt" (“Cologne Cathedral Paper”). By the way, the “Kölner Domblatt” is the sole periodical worldwide, which consistently reports on the extensive operations and workings on a cathedral church – this sophisticated and ambitiously created book also is a prominent business card portraying the affiliation with an exceptional society.
